Vgo at Oracle World 2007

Wow… a bit corny and very cliche, but it’s the first word I can think of to describe OOW 2007 for us.   It was, by FAR, the best year we’ve ever had there.  Qualifying “best” in that a) we talked to a ton of different end users of both Forms and Java from all over the world b) we got to hook up with some of our friends from Oracle like Grant Ronald   and we made many new ones c) met prospective partners from all over the world with (hopefully) some exciting news coming in the next quarter or so.

I’d say what was really the most gratifying was hearing how well Evo 2.0 was received.   The addition of the Object Repository to the product greatly enhances the viability of modernization.  We can now load several  Forms application into Evo and define and reuse components across them.  We thought it was cool and so did people who stopped to visit.

Evo ART was also new and a good hit there.  ART is new functionality in Evo that populates a (separate) repository with Forms meta data.  Evo provides several reports that can give you impact assessments of the Forms and dependent objects, complexity of their Forms (it’s AMAZING what people don’t know about their Forms) and more.

Apparently the concert was really great.  At least my guys liked it.  Billy Joel was reviewed by Rob Nocera as “workman like” and (based on physical reaction alone) a little shy of AC/DShe from last year.  I fell violently ill from eating a seafood soup in my hotel the night before, as I had opted to eat in the room in order to do work.  I vow never to do work at Oracle World again.
